Also underscores, in his last year before being sacked, the pressure Shane was under and the unwanted responsibility he was burdened with. Remarkably little money per gig for eight band members and six crew touring year round with few breaks, and the expectation that he could carry on effortlessly producing works of genius indefinitely and get up night after night to maintain the livelihood of all these other people. I barely work 20 hours a week, am responsible for one small fluffy person of modest needs, and I drink too much. #Pogues https://microblog.mjd.id.au/attachment/36899

"Food must not be of the fast food, chips with everything type […] The band have a preference for traditional style cooking". The #Pogues: the most middle class, politically correct [post-]punk band ever (in an admittedly crowded field). https://boingboing.net/2020/06/26/check-out-the-pogues-tour-ri.html

#RIP MES; your work-shy demise made the world is much less dark, sadly. Shane Patrick Lysaght #MacGowan hasn't written so much as a shopping list for twenty years, and his thrice-broken hip plus the passing of the indispensable Philip Chevron has put an end to #Pogues nostalgia gigs. For all I know, Nick Cave is playing Las Vegas.

It's not just the #Pogues. Every rock band needs an accordion player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSYPecZI_AI #RoaringJack

I was the same with the #Pogues at the Hordern Pavillion in #Sydney 2012. The Broad Majestic Shannon always gets me for some reason. And I weep buckets every time I watch the 30th anniversary DVD recorded about a month later in some obscure continental town called Paris. But does Shane ever stand me a round in Filthy McNasty's? Granted I'm some way from Islington, but for a free drink… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPHZSbNCGMI

Jesus. Context, people. It's a narrative song about (in part) two people verbally abusing each other. It's not an endorsement of the abuse. https://microblog.mjd.id.au/url/20911 #Pogues

I read this in the #NME at the time. Good time to be into music. The #Pogues and Brix-era #Fall at their peak, a decade's worth of punk, post-punk, and indie to mine, and beer at $2 a schooner ($1 at happy hour).
