@tregeagle I used to run unstable. Then I ran testing. Then I ran stable + backports.debian.org. Now I just run stable. It's called getting old. #Debian

Damn! Buggery, fuck! NBN meant I could get all the updates. Now I see why it's called unstable #debian

Jesus, that was painful. For some reason the LMTP port is no longer defined in /etc/services in #Debian 10. I owe the maintainer of etckeeper a beer. http://etckeeper.branchable.com/ It hooks into apt to do a commit before and after every upgrade. I don't know how I ever managed without the ability to do a `git diff` on my /etc. If you've emailed me in the last few days, please resend it.

Okay, I see from error messages that #StatusNet 2.0 requires the funky new features of #PHP > 7.0. That means a #Debian upgrade, which will almost certainly break some stuff. I'm already running PHP 5.6 and 7.0 side by side (can't remember how I got that to work). To be continued another day…

Made it from #Debian Stretch to #Buster; here are a few things I had to fix afterwards: http://sciss.github.io/debian-stretch-to-buster/

Apparently #Jami is now packaged for #Debian, which meant that it made it into the #Ubuntu 19.04 repos, which means eventually it will be in the #Trisquel repos!

Finally conceded defeat and installed a mail client on my laptop. Gad, I love #Cyrus #IMAP. A swine to configure on the server (tho' much better than it used to be, on #Debian at least), but it does do a sterling job of synchronising your spam across multiple devices.

Also greatly enjoyed Karen and Bradley's discussion of the golden age of software freedom (and subsequent dark age). Remember it well. At the time I was okay with this new #Ubuntu thing (whatever happened to that?) bundling some non-free drivers in the base install media because by then we'd essentially won, hadn't we? A handful of hard-line vendors still to be swept up, but basically Mission Accomplished, right?

When I finally awoke from my Shuttleworth slumbers and tried to install #Debian on the most generic of white box PCs (my brand of choice), I found I kept having to install drivers from the non-free repo. WTF? I thought we fixed this?

    Then came the phones…

Mind you, the gender balance in that hall… It's not so much tilted as vertical. Something's not right there. You don't get that in #Drupal conferences. Well, not since over ten years ago. #Debian #Debconf

Watching @bkuhn choke up when talking about what the #Debian community means to him brought a tear to my eye as well. It's a powerful observation that #freesoftware advocates should make more often: most people get their software from companies; we get ours from friends who care about us enough to want to ensure we can function in 21st century society without compromising our liberty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tVKItTtL3w

Was recently looking up a show on #ABC #iView for #DLW, and got prompted by #Firefox to enable #DRM. Ugh. How did that get in #Debian? Suppose I'll have to migrate all my bookmarks/plugins to #GNU #IceCat. (Side note: the latest version of #youtube-dl works with the new iteration of iView.)
